When I first started woodworking I was captivated by antique stool designs found all over the world. My focus was to make a wide variety of stools and benches - staked peasant pieces inspired by historic designs. My furniture selection has since expanded to include chairs, chests, tables and more, but stool designs continue to tug at my heart strings. My stools are made mostly with basic hand tools and traditional joinery. While simple in design, their clean lines and graceful size make it easy for them to fit right in to any space. From traditional to modern home interiors, a stool will find its place.

As charming as they are, stools are more than just their aesthetic - they are a useful multi-purpose item. They can travel across rooms to function well next to a lounge chair as a place to hold a drink, a step stool to reach a high space, somewhere to sit in a space a chair is not convenient, next to a bathtub or a step stool for kids at a bathroom sink, or my cats’ favorite: a spot to bird watch from the window.

My stools are made from domestic woods, typically oak, ash, cherry and maple. The legs on a staked stool are carefully selected for straight grain and assembled with wedged mortises and tenon joinery. They are made to take a beating and can easily hold the weight of an average person. I finish them with soft wax, a finish that offers little protection but is easy to maintain and adds a beautiful shine, or linseed oil paint, a very durable and long lasting finish.

Every week I stumble across a new (old) design that fills me with inspiration. When I have stools and side tables available they will be posted here, or can be made to order. Stools range from $180-$350 and side tables from $250-$400 depending on the size, wood and finish.
